Have you ever had the lack of fun activities, to do with your toddler? I have been there with my 3 year old. We used these fun indoor activities, to bring a little sunshine to our rainy day.
1. Obstacle course - Make a fun obstacle course for your toddler. Let him/her walk around a cloth pile, jump over a pillow, crawl under a table, go under a bridge you made, walk to the left of a chair, to the right of a pot... Let your imagination flow. Make it a little course with start and finish. This will be guaranteed fun and exciting for your toddler.
2. Match the photo with the real thing - Bring out your digital camera and take some photos of things you have in your home. If you can print the photos that is great, if not let your toddler look on the camera screen. Have your toddler match the photo with the real thing. If you take a photo of the kitchen table, ask your toddler the shape of the object is it round or square? Also ask your toddler what color it is, brown or black... If you take a photo of your toddler's stuffed animals, how many is there? What are they wearing?
3. Catch the Balloon - Blow up a Balloon for your toddler to play with. Let her tap it up in the air, when it comes down have your toddler catch it and give it a new tap. Ask her/him what color it is, what shape it is. Have your toddler count how many times she/he can catch it without the balloon touching the floor. Great indoor activity for your toddler. (When you are done playing make sure you put the balloon away, small pieces of latex balloon are a choking risk for children.)
4. Fun with water - We know that Water + Toddler=Great fun! So fill the sink or a big pot with water, add some plastic toys and you have success. Make sure you are in a "splash safe" area, where he/she can splash away and pour water. Of course never leave your child alone with water.
Other things that are great to have home for a rainy day are books, when they are on sale get some new ones and save until you really, really need them. Play Doh a great entertainer for older toddlers. One of my son's favorite things to do is puzzles. Also Legos or Duplos will get your toddlers imagination going.
